Sam is our Boho Hair hero... she particularly loves ‘boho’, creative and vintage styling, but can turn her hand to anything, classic or contemporary. We spoke to Sam to get her tips and tricks and find out more about her passion for wedding hair below...

Tell us what you love most about doing wedding hair?

The moment when the bride looks in the mirror and smiles – that’s what I love the most. It’s something I’ve always loved and always done, the creative side of hairdressing. The hair and make up’s always the icing on the cake and I think bride’s can regret not having theirs done professionally.

Do you have a favourite hairstyle?

I would say my favourite style is ‘boho’ with fresh flowers, the undone updo, but I also love a classic sleek look and really love vintage styling and accessories.

Do you have any advice for brides when choosing a hair style for their wedding?

Allow plenty of time for your trial, be open minded, but don’t try and look too ‘different’ to your normal self as you might not feel comfortable. Just like buying your dress, what you have in your mind is often different when you try it. Also bear in mind your hair type and whether the style you want is achievable – clip in extensions can work wonders for bulk and length. Remember the hair accessories need to work with the style, so perhaps chat to your hairdresser before buying perhaps a tiara when a vintage side piece might work better.

How can a bride make sure that her style lasts all day?

Dependent on style, hair’s often best washed the night before without too much conditioner so its not too soft, bridal hairdressers are trained to make sure your hair stays in – I always love the comments I get – “my hair stayed in all day and still looked good next day” – very rewarding.

What would be your piece of advice for the big day?

Don’t sweat the small stuff – its really common for minor hiccups to occur on your wedding day, but in the grand scheme of things just smile and enjoy every minute of your day being pampered with those you love around you – these little hiccups are the things you’ll laugh at later on.

Introducing Top Make-Up Artist Gemma...

Like the rest of the girls we spoke to Gemma about what she loves about her job and some top wedding tips for brides.

Tell us what you love most about doing wedding make up?

My favourite thing about doing wedding makeup is seeing the bride and bridal party when they are completely ready. When you first meet a bride you get to hear about all the details for the day, hair, dress, flowers, colour schemes etc. It’s so lovely to see it all come together with the makeup look you have created to complete it. It makes me feel really excited for them.

Do you have a favourite style?

I really love doing different looks. It’s nice to look at someone and picture what would look good on them even if it’s something they would never think of doing on themselves. For a bride my favourite look would probably be flawless skin with glowey cheeks, a soft smokey eye and a nude/natural lip. I find this sort of look photographs lovely with a stronger eye makeup and is very timeless on photos.

Do you have any advice for bride’s when choosing their make up for their wedding?

When choosing wedding makeup I would normally suggest to brides to go for something similar to what they would wear normally so it feels comfortable, but more of an enhanced slightly heavier look. You want to be the best version of yourself on your big day. Get some ideas together of the sort of looks you like to show your makeup artist at a trial. Although do take guidance from your makeup artist as we can tell what colours would compliment your skin tone, eye colour and hair colour. And this may be slightly different to the colours you are used to

How can a bride make sure that her make up lasts all day?

As a bride you really need to make sure you look after your skin, and get into a good skin care regime at least a few months before the wedding day. The better condition your skin is in the better the makeup will look on your skin and stay. Also make sure you are using the right products for your skin type. Once you have had your makeup done try not to touch your face. If you have a little tear just dab the area lightly and try not to rub it. Also make sure you have your lip products to touch up throughout the day and if you have oily skin have a pressed or loose powder with you. I always apply a primer as a makeup base and a setting spray to help the makeup stay on.

What would be your piece of advice for the big day?

When it comes to the morning of the wedding just sit back relax and enjoy it with your bridal party. Wedding mornings always go really quick so just make sure you take it all in.

Lorna is one of our fabulous highly trained make up artists having had exclusive Dior training in the UK and Paris. We are extremely lucky to be able to offer brides-to-be the opportunity to book Lorna for their special day. We know everyone will love Lorna and the friendly professional feel that will make you feel at ease on your wedding morning. Here's what Lorna had to say when we put her under our spotlight...

Tell us about your training and achievements?

I have done the majority of my training with Christian Dior and have passed a colour stylist course amongst various other makeup studies and seminars held all over the UK and Paris, I have frequently attended makeup seminars to keep up with new trends and techniques, but also follow makeup very closely through media with my passion and wanting to keep updated, I was lucky enough to win an award for the best makeup consultant out of 700 Dior consultants for my customer service and makeup skill and was rewarded with a trip to Paris to work alongside side famous artists for the week which was truly inspiring! I've also won a makeup masters award amongst others in which was extremely challenging being timed and projected so it was really rewarding to have won.

What have you done that you’re most proud of?

The thing I am most proud of in my line of work is the confidence we can give to people, I've had many clients who are so happy and overwhelmed with how special they feel after a consultation that could have been just what they needed at that time that becomes a very satisfying role.

How would you describe you make up style?

I would describe my style to be complimentary to my client,i always like to stand back to find their best features and make them shine, I love fashion and like to follow trends but theres nothing like a beautiful, elegant, classic look!

What advice would you give to a bride looking for her perfect make up look for the big day?

The advice I always give brides for there makeup style is always to be true to yourself and have what you feel comfortable in but be aware that 10% more will always benefit in your photos, your wedding day is a special day but your photos will last a lifetime!

Is there anything brides can do to ensure there skin is in the best condition on the day?

I will always ensure to find out with my clients what there skin is like during their trial and whatever the condition I enjoy being able to help the them to get the most out of there makeup by preparing the skin accordingly, then not only do you have beautiful comfortable skin but it looks great too.

What would be your piece of advice for the big day?

A piece of advice for the day is to give a bridesmaid the responsibility of your lipstick and touch ups so you don't have the worry, and most importantly to take every moment like it's in slow motion and to ensure you have a moment with your new husband alone to take in what a special and memorable day this will be for the rest of your lifes whilst your living it.

Our next blog Q&A will be with our award winning Hair Stylist Nicola - http://www.bristolbridalhairandmakeup.com/nicola-c-hair/4590783994

Sally is one our many talented Make Up Artists on the team.

Below we asked her some questions so you can get to know more about her...

Tell us about your awards and what they mean to you?

I have won 2 different types of award.

I won the NHFederation Best in Britain Bridal Makeup 2015 and 2016. This involved a day competing against other makeup artists and being judged by a group of well known and established professionals working within the industry. Winning these awards was important for me as it meant that people working in the industry to a very high standard appreciated my work amongst other makeup artists.

I was also fortunate enough to win this years Bristol and Somerset wedding award. This was very special to me. It relied on my brides from the past year voting for me and giving feedback. To win this was quite overwhelming! It showed that what I do helps to make my brides day extra special and that's what counts for me.

What do you love most about your job?

I have always loved weddings- I love the build up and the planning, the details, colours, the outfits! when any of my friends have got married I am the first one to start planning it for them!

I love meeting people and their families and being able to play a part in such an important and memorable part of someone's day is very special to me.

I love that I can give people confidence and help them to feel good about themselves. Creating an individual look for every bride makes every wedding unique.

What advice would you give to a bride looking to book a make up artist?

My advice for any bride looking for a makeup artist is firstly to research.

All makeup artists have their own style- each specialising in different looks and techniques.

You need to look at their pictures and see if their style of work is one that you like.

Read their feedback, this can help give you the confidence you are looking for.

Once you have chosen someone you need to get in touch and see if you get along! This might sound odd but this person is going to be a part of one of the biggest days of your life!

Book a trial- there you can talk and get to know each other and start to plan your makeup look and make sure you feel 100% happy and confident to be in their hands on the morning. If you are unsure what you want, look online at pictures and save them to show your makeup artist, that way they can get an idea of the style you like.

Do you have a favourite look/style?

To chose a favourite style would be near impossible!!!

I love makeup. I have been interested in makeup since a very young age - going to see my mum in her own salon as I grew up.

I don't believe that people should put on a 'mask' when using makeup- I don't want to change you! Every single face is beautiful and unique and I don't want it to look like anything other than you. Makeup Is to help people feel good about themselves and if I can help someone feel amazing on their wedding day then I think I have done my job!

Do you have a favourite product?

I am a complete product junkie! Anything new on the market and it would be wrong of me not to try it- right?!

I am abit of an animal lover so to see so many amazing products out now that are cruelty free is fantastic.

I love the Anastasia Beverly Hills eye palettes- they are highly pigmented and give a beautiful finish. Nars and Too faced Foundations are my latest craze, they give a flawless finish without looking heavy. My trusty Mac lipsticks are still a favourite with so many colours to choose from it's like being a kid in a sweet shop!

I use fixing spray to insure your makeup stays put all day and all night!

What would be your piece of advice for the big day?

Other than makeup advice of which I have plenty- I would say when it gets to the morning of the wedding it's time to enjoy it!!! Forget the planning, whether the venue has the right fairy lights in the right teacup!

It's your day now with your loved ones and you need to take it all in.

Cherish all the little things, the laughs and the tears as you will look back on this day forever and you don't want to miss a thing.
